SUPPORTING HEART & STROKE

For more than 60 years, Heart & Stroke has been dedicated to fighting heart disease and stroke. Our work has saved thousands of lives and improved the lives of millions of others. We are working with communities, organizations and system leaders to promote healthier lifestyles for all. This year, one of our primary focuses is women’s health.
#TimetoSeeRed
Heart disease and stroke are the leading cause of premature death for women in Canada. The evidence is clear: women continue to be under-researched, under-diagnosed, under-treated, under-supported and under-aware of their risks. As a result, they’re over-dying.
Heart & Stroke is on a mission to make positive changes in women’s heart and brain health. To stop women from dying unnecessarily, Heart & Stroke is doubling the dollars we invest in research for women. We’re also advancing sex and gender-based analysis & reporting in Heart & Stroke funded research, to ensure women are equitably represented.
The threat is urgent
Every 20 minutes a woman in Canada dies from heart disease. The #1 cause of premature death in women in Canada is heart disease and stroke. According to one retrospective study, early signs of heart attack were missed in 78% of women. And women are 50% less likely than men to participate in cardiac rehabilitation. It’s time to break the glass ceiling on heart health. The time has come to correct the inequities that claim the lives of too many women.
From healthcare providers and policymakers to people with lived experience, everyone needs to be better-equipped to manage heart disease and stroke in women. It will take all of us, working together, to transform women`s heart health.
Our vision: Healthy lives free of heart disease and stroke. Together we will make it happen.
